Objectives and Goal of my practicum

1.      The overall scope of the proposed objectives is to promote health ethics through my Spanish translation of the Kansas Advance Directive forms, assist the organization with IRB (Institutional Review Board) forms update and support staff with daily office tasks.

2.      The main objectives for my practicum are to update IRB forms to improve the IRB application process and make forms more users friendly, attend necessary meetings, translate the Advanced Directives forms from English to Spanish, and if the time allows, translate various Advance Directive flyers to Spanish for the organization.

3.      The organization has assigned five different Advance Directives forms that are important to have available for those at health care fairs, retirement homes, patients, family members, and many more. The forms are as follows: Healthcare Power of Attorney, Living Will, Do Not Resuscitate Directive, Make the Decision yours, FAQ’s (frequent ask questions), and Summary/KS Advance Directives. The organization would prefer having the Advance Directive forms translated by the end of January so I can then focus on the primary objective of updating/ revising IRB forms, and to have them completed by the end of my 160 hours.

4.      Upon completion of my objectives the organization will benefit from the addition of the Spanish Advance Directive forms which will be a gateway for introducing a different culture to decisions about end of life planning. The organization will also benefit from the update IRB forms which ultimately equates to more satisfied investigators and increased human subjects protection to easier application process for both the investigators and the Wichita Medical Research and Education Foundation (WMREF) IRB.

5.      An overall outcome that comes along with the update of the IRB forms will result in more accessible, and user friendly forms and ultimately, improved human subjects protection.

6.      The assigned objectives will satisfy two of the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals. First, I will gain cultural competency skills by responding to diverse needs of a culture differences. Secondly, I will gain Analytical/ Assessment skills by using technology to collect, compare, analyze and update various IRB related documents.
